A Stage 4 Colon Cancer Diagnosis: What now? A Heartfelt Chat with Victoria Garcia

A Stage 4 Colon Cancer Diagnosis: What now? A Heartfelt Chat with Victoria Garcia

by Alicia Elatassi

In this episode, special guest Victoria Garcia is brought back to talk about how her recent diagnosis of Colon Cancer has impacted her life as a brand and personal photographer. She speaks about the mental toll of cancer and how they’ve affected her previous values of hustle culture and her workaholic tendencies. She says that there was always a need to do something at all times, and if you don’t, you feel lazy and unaccomplished. Since she was diagnosed, she’s adjusted that mindset to adapt to her symptoms and treatment, and began accepting the fact that she didn’t need to be working all the time to feel accomplished.

Her diagnosis has also impacted her views on morality. She states that we don’t often realize that we have limited time, and push health and wellness aside to accomplish work-related goals. She says that we must let go of that mindset and prioritize our health because finding something early is much more beneficial than waiting until it’s potentially fatal.

Alicia and Victoria also speak on their experiences with the healthcare system, and their shared desire for reform on its monetary accessibility and exploitative aspects.

Overall, an impactful and eye-opening episode on the realities of cancer patients everywhere.
